Resources

This is a resources page that you can always come to for all of your investing needs. I’ll update as I discover new and useful resources. Bookmark it for easy reference. Enjoy!

Stock Research

  • Morningstar. This is my primary reference for finding financial data on companies. It works well for both US and non-US companies. The data provided are accurate and their layout is very helpful in finding the relevant data. Best of all, it is free! Although it has a premium membership, the basic free version will be more than enough for most people.

Bloggers

I like to follow financial bloggers for ideas and updates about companies. I love the community of financial bloggers who share selflessly about their research. It really saved me a lot of time and effort to listen to their viewpoints before I dive deep into my own research.

  • Fifthperson.  Adam, Rusmin and Victor created a highly informative website packed with their unique analysis of individual companies. They focus mainly  on Singapore stocks. My favourite is their report from attending companies’ AGM. Those report provide valuable information about the management which you will not see from annual reports.
  • ASSI.  AK71 is perhaps the most well known income investors in Singapore. He was receiving more than $100k worth of dividend during his peak. While he is less active now, he still believes in sharing about personal finance and portfolio management. If you have difficulty saving up for investment, ASSI has lotsa ideas for you.
  • Bigfatpurse. Alvin has created a blog that emphasise on deep value investing. It is refreshing to see someone sticking to the tried and tested formula by Ben Graham. He also shares a lot on investing psychology which is very important but often overlooked by many.
  • Kelvestor.  Kelvin Seetoh is one of the brightest minds I have encountered. His ability to decipher the annual reports and read for minute but important details is unparallel. You can always count on him to provide you with a refreshing view of business analysis. I always keep a lookout for any new ideas he has, and I think you should too.

Podcasts

While podcasts have been around a long time and it is picking up pace in the United States. It remains pretty unknown to the rest of the world, especially Asia. I subscribe to many podcasts to maximise my time when I’m commuting. If you haven’t tried listening to podcast before, I strongly encourage you to give it a try! Much better than the normal radio channels where you have no influence over the content. I use the Stitcher and iTunes as my main app to listen on the go!

  • The Investors Podcast. Preston and Stig focus their attention on how the billionaires make their wealth. In fact, their slogan is “We Study Billionaires”. They bring on really interesting people to their podcast and interview them for their reason of success. If you have nothing to do during commute, just listen to their podcast to maximise your time. It is pure gold.
  • Motley Fool Money.  Most people would be familiar with Motley Fool. While they have many podcasts, this is my favorite. The analysts from Motley Fool discuss top business and investing stories and interviews. I often get ideas on research topic from this podcast

Apps

  • Buxfer. I personally used Buxfer to monitor and track my expenses. It is by far the best tool I have found that is free!
