Personal Development: How to Maximise Your Audible Subscription?
Can I read more than 1 book with just 1 Audible credit?
The answer is resounding YES! You definitely can read more than 1 book with just 1 credit. For those of you who are not familiar with Audible, you may want to read the previous introduction on Audible first before reading on.
Alright, when you first subscribe to Audible, you would have most likely chosen the basic subscription of 1 Audible credit per month, which allows you to purchase 1 audiobook. However, as mentioned previously, you could probably finish an audiobook in 5-7 days. Then what are you going to do for the rest of the month?
Thankfully, Audible has a superb, customer friendly return policy. Basically, you can return the audiobook and 1 Audible credit will be refunded to you!
Hence, technically, you can read about 4 books in the first month before you need to pay the next month’s subscription fee.
Browse through tonnes of audiobooks with few credits
To find the book that you like, you could go to the library and browse through the books for free before purchasing it. You can do the same thing in Audible as well.
At the second month, Audible will give you another credit and now your account has 2 credits! At this stage, you can buy 2 books into your account at any time.
Here’s where the magic begins, you can browse through tonnes of audiobooks with just 2 credits
I am using a technique called “Skimming” to find my favourite books to keep.
The main idea is I want to know if this book is worth my time and whether I should keep it in my Audible account. I will put the playback speed to 2.0x and quickly listen to the first 3-4 chapters of any book. If I don’t like what I hear, I will quickly return it to Audible and ask for a credit refund. Armed with a fresh Audible credit, I will purchase another audiobook to browse through.
By repeating the process, “Skimming” helps me to go through 20 books a month before I settle on my favourite ones.
Free Audiobooks on Audible?
When you pause your subscription, you will stop receiving new credits every month. However, the cool feature of Audible is that it allows users to pause their subscription for 3 months once in a while (I am still trying to find out how often), while still continue to listen and, if necessary, refund them.
As time goes by, you will have more and more credits. At about 5 credits, I pause my subscription because browsing through 5 audiobooks a day is about the maximum I could do right now. I continue to repeat “Skimming” in search of my favourite book during the 3 months.
This means you could stop paying subscription fee for 3 months while still able to browse and listen to your audiobooks! Free audiobooks!
Of course, after 3 months you will have to decide if you would like to continue with Audible subscription or not. However, if you do not want to continue with the subscription, you could cancel it. The neat thing is YOU GET TO KEEP THE AUDIOBOOKS! That’s right, you will get to keep the audiobooks you have last purchased.
This means if you have found 5 rock solid books and would like to keep them. You could use all 5 credits to buy those audiobooks before you cancel the subscription, and you get to keep listening to them! How awesome is that?
Should you continue your Audible Subscription?
It is really up to you but I certainly did! There are so many great books out there, 5 credits would not be enough. And as I increase my “Skimming” power to browse through books, I believe I will need more credits. Furthermore, $14.95 each month for personal development and growth is a steal!
With a busy lifestyle, it is hard to sit down and read a book in peace. I have certainly found more time to “read” after using Audible. Hope that you guys will use Audible to “read” more books too!
See you soon!
