10 Stocks from Value Investing Bootcamp
Hopefully everyone reading this post have been busy in the stock market because I have been! There were great deals in the Singapore market following the recent quick retreat of the stock prices.
However instead of my usual stock analysis, I want to share more about the recent value investing training that I conducted!
Two weeks ago, I had another round of Value Investing Bootcamp. This time, it is at the nice lecture room in the Institute of Lifelong Learning. (Can’t think of a better name for my training venue!)
I started off by asking my students a simple question,
“What are your 10 reason for not investing?”
I was reading my 10 excuses =)
While the grammar can be improved, it is still a great question because none of them could come up with 10 reasons not to invest. I always follow a mantra when I’m about to embark on something beneficial but scarily new to me.
Do I have 10 good reasons not to do it?
If I fall short of 10 good reasons, those reasons are probably just excuses. Below are some of the common excuses:
- I don’t have enough money – Excuse! You can start investing with just $1000. If you don’t invest, you are likely to continue to be poor.
- I don’t have enough time – Excuse! Everyone has 24hours a day. If my student, who holds a fulltime job while taking care of her 3 children, can find the time to learn and do value investing… so can you!
- I don’t have the know how – Excuse! The Internet is full of information. You just need to google for it. And if you need more explanation, you can attend courses such as Value Investing Bootcamp. In this time of free information, you can learn almost anything from the Internet
Now that I have removed their excuses, they were excited and began to swamp me!
I could not go for my lunch but it was worth it!
The happy faces of the Top Team!
Practice, practice and practice
One big feature of the Value Investing Bootcamp is the practical. We made sure our students fully understand the concept of value investing by forcing making them practice and practice. Collectively they have chosen the following stocks during the bootcamp and I just want to share with you the stocks that they picked up after learning value investing.
US Stocks
- Michael Kors (Retail)
- PDL BioPharma ( Pharmaceutical )
- Walt Disney (Entertainment)
- Alibaba (Ecommerce)
- Johnson and Johnson (Consumer Products)
SG Stocks
- Riverstone (Medical and Industrial Gloves)
- Sheng Siong (Supermarket)
- Dutech Holdings (Security)
- Silverlake (IT Support)
- Challenger (IT Consumer)
As you can see, the stocks chosen by the students are widely diverse across industries, and consist of both famous and unknown names. And if you dig deeper into each company, you will understand why they are undervalued. As always, do your due diligence too!
A glimpse at the new batch of value investors!
Next time, I will choose a company from this list as an example to show you how I analyse stocks!
